275.  What kinds of questions should I ask during my presentation on prepositions?

ANSWER:

THANKS for your interest in My Web Sites!!!

Your question is so brief I am not sure I understand it.   However, here is a possible answer to what I think you are asking.

Prepositions express relationships between nouns, in many cases physical relationships, time relationships, cause and effect relationships, etc.   For example:
These prepositions express VERTICAL space relationships -- above, up, over, on, at (within, into, in inside, by, beside, between), down under, below, beneath.
These prepositions deal with HORIZONTAL space relationships -- near, before, at across, after/in front of, behind, along.
These prepositions deal with circles-in-space relationships -- around, among.
These prepositions deal with direction in space -- to, from, for, through, against, near, towards, off.
These are prepositions expressing TIME relationships -- until, within, in, during, since, upon.

So prepositions can be classified by the types of relationships they express.   As you do a presentation on prepositions, LOTS of VISUAL representations (using pictures from newspapers, magazines, etc.) would help the second language learner get the idea of the physical relationship or any other type of relationship that can be visualized through the pictures and expressed with prepositions.

Indeed, native speakers learn prepositions exactly the same way: through visual experiences.   It is almost impossible to explain, through words, the difference among the prepositions: under, beneath, and underneath.  Only visual experiences help native speakers of English understand what the physical differences among these prepositions are. (A very interesting question, then, is "Do blind-since-birth speakers of English, for example, have difficulty learning prepositions?)

So, during your presentation, with LOTS of VISUALS, you could ask many questions about the pictures you show and the types of relationships, expressed by propositions, that the pictures depict: "Is the chair UNDER the table or ABOVE the table?"  "Is the glass on the table or by the table?"  "Is the present you bought FOR John or do you plan to give the present TO Mary?"

I hope my answer responds to the questions you were thinking about and trying to ask.
